Toward self-consistent angular momentum transport in pulsating massive stars
I report on preliminary results from an ongoing project that explores angular momentum transport by unstable pulsation modes in massive stars. After briefly reviewing the underlying formalism for this transport, and describing a numerical code that implements it, I present an example simulation for a 5M model star. I show that prograde ` = m = 2 g modes, unstable due to the iron-bump κ mechanis...
متن کاملThe Angular Velocity of the Apsidal Rotation in Binary Stars
The shape of a rotating star consisting of equilibrium plasma is considered. The velocity of apsidal rotation of close binary stars (pe-riastron rotation) which depends on the star shapes is calculated. The obtained estimations are in a good agreement with the observation data of the apsidal motion in binary systems.
متن کاملThe Evolution of Surface Parameters of Rotating Massive Stars
We summarize the present status of the predictions of massive star models for the evolution of their surface properties. After discussing luminosity, temperature and chemical composition, we focus on the question whether massive stars may arrive at critical rotation during their evolution, either on the main sequence or in later stages. We find both cases to be possible and briefly discuss obse...
متن کاملThe evolution of rotating very massive stars with LMC composition⋆⋆⋆
Context. With growing evidence for the existence of very massive stars at subsolar metallicity, there is an increased need for corresponding stellar evolution models. Aims. We present a dense model grid with a tailored input chemical composition appropriate for the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). Methods. We use a one-dimensional hydrodynamic stellar evolution code, which accounts for rotation, t...
متن کاملPresupernova Evolution of Differentially Rotating Massive Stars Including Magnetic Fields
As a massive star evolves through multiple stages of nuclear burning on its way to becoming a supernova, a complex, differentially rotating structure is set up. Angular momentum is transported by a variety of classic instabilities, and also by magnetic torques from fields generated by the differential rotation. We present the first stellar evolution calculations to follow the evolution of rotat...
